Time for Breakfast?
Who's hungry for pancakes?
My resident floor pancake, Mabel.
"Oh, lord, they've got that stupid camera out again...Can't a bunn just relax in piece?"
Here's a close-up of the tocks and the feet. Love how they are sticking straight out. Usually my bunz kick their feet out to the side when they are lounging.

Methodology to "Bunny Harassment"
Step 1. Find bunny in lazy condition.
(Startled). "Hey, why are you so close? What are you holding in your hands??"
Step 2. Quickly sneak a blanket on top of her.
"Hey! What did you just do?! I'm in my right mind to get up and fling this off!"
Step 3. Step back, see if you are sucessful.
"Actually...I'll get up later..."
(Head down, closing eyes, ear covering blanket.) Looks like we've done it!!!!

Hugo update for everyone who thought to ask about him.
I just want everyone to know that my baby Hugo died 4/29/08, Tuesday night at the vet.
We brought him back to go under oxygen but he didn't recover as he had done before.
This is the first time I have been able to bring myself to post this.
My mom still doesn't even know. She knows I spent thousands on vet bills, and thinks that I'm a bit mad, but hasn't asked how he is doing. Oh well.
Bungee is actually doing really well without her fat little friend/partner in crime. I was afraid she would become depressed but she is managing fine on her own.
Mabel's marking has improved markedly (pun intended) and she is actually blossoming into quite the goober. Now that she doesn't have to compete with Hugo for out-time.
I will continue to post about my two remaining bun-pies - thanks to everyone for their patience.

Hugo
I've been more dedicated to my bunnies lately than this blog. But here is a quick update.
Hugo's rasping became chronic. We have been to the emergency vet 5 x since Feb. I took him to a regular vet twice for another opinion. Between all the trips to the vet, he's been on and off various antibiotics, had a shot of steriods, was tried on penicillin....despite our efforts, he almost died from respitory distress several times.
A couple of Sunday nights ago we ended up rushing him in to the emerg room again to get his oxygen therapy, and they took more xrays. Suspected lung cancer. We took him to a place an hour away from us, Tufts animal hospital in Grafton, MA. (We both called into work as we thought we were going to lose him after the worst episode occured that morning).
They took xrays. CTs. A biopsy. He was there two nights with improvement.
Whenever he is away from us, he seems to get better. However, the vets suspected cancer as there is a mass taking up 40% of one of his lungs.
We took him home a week ago Wed, thinking the worst. However, Hugo's breathing had been normal as he spent a few days away.
Thursday we got the result of the biopsy. No cancer. No infection. Simply inflammation.
That was great news. The vet was baffled; she had never seen this outcome before. But she was happy.
So for the last week we have been giving Hugo an anti-inflam orally once a day. Knock on wood - no more rasping. He was a bit tramatized the first day back, but now he is back to his happy bouncy piggy self.
It has been a long tough road for me and Mike, but especially Hugo. I hope we are out of the woods. Today we are getting the living room carpet replaced, as we suspect that there was something irriating his lungs. However if we have to give him his anti-inflam meds for the rest of his life, that is something we will do. He is a fighter, and he wants to live. I don't think any of our other bunnies would have survived all of the trips in the car and meds and poking and needles and anesthesia.
I will post pics soon. He has a big shaved spot on his side from where they took the biopsy and the fronts of both paws are shaved, and it looks kind of poodle-ish.
For now, Mabel and I are hanging out in the computer room, as we cleared out the entire living room last night. She is staring at me as I type, I'm sure thinking mommy is a big computer dork.
Will update again soon. Thanks for everyone's patience

Hugo is back to his "normal" self!
Update:
Hugo finished his grape baytril the other day. No signs of rasping! Hooray!
(It is especially hard now not to endulge him with treats when he T's.)
Chomp chomp...Keep the yapple coming, mom, I'm on the mend!

Time to wash up after that mess!

Hugo had/has pneumonia....
Hey all
Its been a bit since I posted so I wanted to give you an update.
A week ago Friday night we had Hugo and Bungee out playing and we noticed that Hugo was making a raspy sound when he was breathing. Otherwise he seemed normal. The following day, Saturday, he was progressively worse. He was struggling to breath and not moving around much. He was tiltling his head upwards and rapidly inhaling short breaths. The rasping was louder.
We rushed him to the emergency vet Sat. night and he went into an oxygen chamber right away. We had his lungs x-rayed and they were 75% filled with fluid. They kept him overnight and started injecting antibiotics. The following day we took him home and started giving him baytril by mouth. That Sunday he was markedly better but still rasping.
Monday after work he was a lot better and begging for treats!
Monday after work he was a lot better and begging for treats!
So for the past week, we have had him quarantined in the middle of the living room using our x-pens, a bath mat, and the bottom of a beer box cut out for a litter box. He loved the new angle - he could see down the hall, and especially into the kitchen, his favorite place:)
However all three bunz have had a rough week as their playtime diminished and we had to keep shoeing Bungee away from Hugo. Hugo and Mabel tried fighting through the bars so she had to be shut in a lot more. But the good news is that every day Hugo sounded better and has been back to his old mischievious self:)
And we changed his medicine (Baytril) to a grape-flavored compound of Baytril at the same concentration, so now Hugo willingly eats it himself, (when mixed with a few seed treats).
Yesterday we reintroduced "The Odd Couple" and after a bit of being a scaredy cat (Bungee) they both settled back into their old cage together. Hugo and Bungee spent the night together.
We will be continuing Hugo's meds for the next week or so to stave off the infection. Hopefully he is not contagious anymore, it has been a whole week and it didn't make sense to keep him quarantined any more. Hopefully everything can go back to normal now!

It's Mabel's 2nd Gotcha Day!
Too celebrate, I beeped her nose!
It has been 2 whole years since I took Mabel home from the animal lab in the company I used to work for. I wonder if she remembers that place? I sure hope not!
"Hey Mom. I hear basil is a good memory modifier. Yeah, and parsley, too."
Happy Gotcha Day Mrs. Mabelbum!

Naughty Bun-holes!
Do you ever get out-witted by your bunny? I do. Have to admit that.
I placed this kale/lettuce package from an Edible Arrangement Gift on the chair to the right, so that I could take pics of the bun-pies enjoying it later.
I wanted to email these pics to relatives who received said Gift to show how much the bunz appreciated it.
The bf and I are watching TV with the terrible twosome out and about. Then I hear loud chomping sounds from the other end of the room. Behold.

SOMEBUNNY must have climbed up and YOINKED the arrangment off the chair!
I had to quickly grab my camera and snap up the evidence.

In Celebration of Bungee's 2nd Gotcha Day!
We've had this sweet girl since 01/02/06. She came to me shy and scared. Now she is brattier than Hugo! He taught her well! Yay Bungelina!
